Irene Angelos
Irene Angelos, MA (she/her): I am a doctoral-level clinician providing psychotherapy under licensed supervision while completing my Psy.D. in clinical psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. I bring warmth, curiosity, and a steady, collaborative presence to my work, and I deeply value building meaningful connections with clients. My approach is grounded in empathy, compassion, collaboration, and a gentle sense of humor.
I have experience working with children, adolescents, and families in outpatient clinic, therapeutic school, and intensive outpatient settings. I have supported clients navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, suicidality, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. I am especially drawn to working with trauma survivors and deeply respect the many ways people adapt, endure, and protect themselves through painful experiences.
My approach is client-centered and trauma-informed, with an emphasis on helping clients better understand their emotions, relationships, and patterns without shame or judgment. I believe that each person has an innate capacity for healing and growth.
When working with children, I incorporate developmentally responsive approaches that help younger clients feel comfortable expressing themselves. I often integrate play, creativity, curiosity, and emotional skill-building into sessions while remaining attentive to each child’s individual personality, needs, and pace.
I value the courage it takes to reach out for support and feel honored to witness clients’ resilience, growth, and empowerment.

What do you like about being a therapist?
I love being able to listen as clients share their most vulnerable parts of themselves. It’s inspiring to witness their strength and resilience. Even taking the first step and acknowledging “I need help” is an act of courage. I feel honored to support clients as they grow, heal, and step more fully into their lives.
What do you like to do when you are not working? What do you do for fun?
When I am not working, you can expect to see me with my friends and family. When I am with them, I love to go for walks, do arts and crafts, play chess, go dancing, watch movies, and talk, talk, talk! My favorite activities are authentic Greek dance with my competitive and non-competitive dance groups, reading sci-fi/fantasy books, cooking, baking, and going to the gym.
What’s your “go to” creative or restorative outlet?
Despite being so extroverted, my restorative outlet is alone time. I value the occasional days in which I stay at home and clean at my own pace, listen to any and all kinds of music, and cook a satisfying meal. I will silence my phone and give myself permission to not respond to text messages right away. This alone time allows me to return to my busy schedule feeling refreshed.
