CTC Vision and Purpose

Home / CTC Vision and Purpose

Thank you for your interest in Centered Therapy Chicago! I launched Centered Therapy Chicago in 2014 with a vision of creating a community of therapists who are relational, caring, compassionate, trauma-informed, and invested in providing the highest quality therapeutic services to their clients.

It was important to me to create a therapy practice that is invested and actively involved in the community. In addition, it was essential that I created a practice that was and is intentional about continued learning, professional development, and therapist self-care.

Healthy relationships and healthy communities are a key part of our health and wellbeing, and we believe in the healing power of relationships. At CTC, we take a relational approach to therapy, which means we prioritize the therapeutic relationship within the healing process. We approach our clients with openness, curiosity, authenticity, transparency, compassion, and respect. We are collaborative and are most interested in what the client wants for themselves and in their life.

A Welcoming Place for Everyone

At CTC, it is important that we are open, affirming, and welcoming. We welcome people of all identities, races, ethnicities, religions, genders, sexual identities, and abilities. We strive to understand the social, political, and cultural contexts that impact our clients and our community and that we provide culturally competent, affirming, anti-racist therapy to our clients. To assist us in understanding and addressing these issues, we use a Relational Feminist approach that values egalitarianism and equality, with an interest in how cultural and societal issues can impact our health and mental health.

We are committed to encouraging and sustaining healthy relationships with self, others, family, and within the community. We support children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, and our communities in the face of life transitions, loss, relationship challenges, trauma, intergenerational trauma, societal challenges, and political unrest.

We see clients as individuals who have the inherent capacity to heal given the right circumstances and not a collection of symptoms or a problem to be solved. We partner with clients in their healing journey and work collaboratively to understand what they want for themselves and what is getting in the way of them living the life they truly want.

I have been a trauma therapist for over 20 years, and know how important it is for therapists to understand the impact of trauma and how to work with it therapeutically. Unfortunately, we know that most individuals will experience at least one, if not many, traumatic experiences, or losses in their life. It is essential that therapists are trauma informed. All therapists at CTC are trauma-informed and are committed to working with clients to reclaim their power, their voice, and their story. We integrate the wisdom of the body into our work and we practice body-oriented approaches to healing trauma.

Continued Learning Helps Us Grow as Therapists

I have been involved in therapist education, development, and training for over 20 years and am committed to being actively involved in continued professional growth and development. It is imperative for therapists to be actively engaged in their professional development and maintain an active self-care practice to provide high quality therapy services. Centered Therapy Chicago is built on a “Trauma Stewardship” framework which emphasizes the importance of therapists being connected in a caring and fun work environment and be actively engaging in mindfulness practices, self-care, and meaningful social change. I also infuse an emphasis on therapist development, supervision, and continued professional development into the practice.

In 2017, CTC, launched its doctoral training program to increase our engagement in our community, provide an avenue for more affordable mental health services, be actively engaged in providing high quality educational opportunities to therapists in training, and continue to refine our provision of high-quality supervision and training opportunities.
