Over the past twelve years, our practice has grown alongside the people who make it what it is—our team, our clients, and the wider community we serve. As I look back, what stands out most is not just the changes we experienced but the way we navigated them together.
The past twelve years have brought both planned transitions and unexpected upheavals. We moved across three locations, adapted to staff transitions, launched practicum and postdoctoral training programs, and started the CTC Training Center—all while navigating broader economic shifts and a rapidly changing mental health landscape.
When the pandemic arrived, we moved from in-person therapy to virtual sessions almost overnight—while collectively navigating global and collective trauma. That period tested our flexibility and resilience and reaffirmed the power of connection and teamwork, even through a screen. We discovered that healing is possible anywhere when relationships are strong, and we deeply value the increased access to care that virtual therapy provides those who might not have otherwise reached us.
Beyond the pandemic, we continue to support clinicians and clients through societal upheaval and sociopolitical change. These moments challenge us to stay grounded in our core values: openness, cultural humility, and creating safer spaces for all. Through it all, our team has shown extraordinary courage and adaptability, and our clients have inspired us with their strength, vulnerability, and agency.
Each transition, from the expected to the unimaginable, invited us to deepen our connections, re-center our values, and remember why we do this work. This journey has been shaped by shared courage, creativity, heartfulness, and a desire to learn and grow together. I’m grateful for every experience which has provided us an opportunity to learn and grow in community.
“In times of rupture, we slow down, listen, and repair.”
What We Learned
- Flexibility supports access and equity.
- Presence and consent matter more than any single technique.
- Relational repair is a practice—inside the therapy room and within our team.
As we step into the next chapter, we do so with profound appreciation for the trust placed in us and a renewed commitment to the work that brought us here. These twelve years have taught us that growth is never linear, healing is never solitary, and change—while often uncomfortable—can be a powerful teacher. We will continue to show up with curiosity, humility, and heart, honoring the relationships that shape our practice every day. Thank you for walking alongside us, for allowing us into your stories, and for helping us build a community where care, connection, and transformation remain at the center of all we do.
Reflection Questions
- What helped you stay connected during times of uncertainty?
- How do you repair and reconnect after rupture—personally or professionally?
- What supports your agency and choice when change is happening?
If these questions sparked curiosity or a longing for more ease, know that you don’t have to navigate this alone. Therapy can be a powerful way to explore these reflections and deepen your connection to yourself and others. At Centered Therapy Chicago, we’re here to support you in creating space for growth, grace, and healing. If you’re ready to take the next step—or simply want to learn more—reach out to us. Your journey toward greater self-support and authentic connection can start today.
